Abbey Moody

Javelin

  1. Grantee | September 2023

In only her second year of throwing the javelin Abbey achieved her first National Title. She has since broken the South Island and National Junior Javelin records, placed first in the U20 Javelin at the 2022 and 2023 NZ Track and Field Championships, won a silver medal in the U20 Oceania Championships and has thrown the 5th best throw by a woman in NZ history. This year Abbey has taken up her scholarship at Stanford University as part of their prestigious Track and Field team.

She has set her sights on breaking the freshman record for javelin and to win her first US National College title in her second year – an example of her extraordinary determination to succeed. Within the next 5 years her ultimate goal is to qualify for the 2028 Olympics. This would be an amazing achievement as no woman in New Zealand has previously competed in javelin at an Olympics.
