James first attended the theatre watching the production of Annie in 2017 as an 8 year old. He knew then that he just had to be involved in theatre! He began ballet, singing, and acting lessons the same year and has performed in over 20 shows in just 6 years. James auditioned and was successful in receiving a place in the Kiwi All-stars team that was meant to travel to America in 2021. He successfully joined the Kiwi All-stars team travelling to Australia in 2022, performing at the Junior Theatre Festival Australia held in New South Wales. In 2024, he played the lead male character Emmett Forest in the Combined Colleges production of Legally Blonde. He has also performed the following roles: Gavroche - Les Miserables; Horton – Seussical; Jr Prince Eric - The Little Mermaid Jr.

He loves to be involved behind the scenes as well, volunteering locally. He received the "Excellence in Drama" award at Richmond View in 2023.
